Shirae Butler PHI 1308.03 Therapy Essay- ENVY “Of all the deadly sins, only envy is no fun at all.”(Joseph Epstein) No one strives to be envious or wants to be. Of all the vices, Envy is the least favorite. It is damaging to the soul, and no pleasure comes from it. Enviers are ashamed of having anyone know of their secret desire. It’s a strong feeling of inferiority. That’s why it is very important we understand the deep link to love and acceptance the sin has to keep one’s envy under control. According to DeYoung, envy is based on our vision, mostly the way we view ourselves. (p.55)It distorts our judgment of what is most valuable in life. What’s most important to the envious person is their status, feeling like their better than someone else. These remedies require reshaping our view of the world and society. The main goal is to re- establish charity towards their neighbors and God. The competition needs to be smashed.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
