2 Experiment 1. Orientation & Operation of Power Supply and Digital Multimeter 0. Preliminary Study A. Investigate the principles of power supply and digital multimeter. B. Investigate the Ohm’s law and Kirchhoff’s law 1. Objective of Experiment A. To understand the basic principles of electrical experiment B. To learn the basic functions and operations of power supply and digital multimeter C. To understand the Ohm’s law and Kirchhoff’s law by constructing circuits with resistors. 2. Tasks A. To practice the operational procedures of power supply and digital multimeter. B. To measure the resistance of electrical resistors by using digital multimeter. C. To construct simple electrical circuits on a breadboard (by supplying the direct current (DC) from power supply and using electrical resistors) and to compare the experimental measurement with theoretical calculation. 3. Equipment and Parts A. Power Supply B. Digital Multimeter C. Resistors (1 kΩ, 2.2 kΩ, 3.3 kΩ, 10 kΩ) D. Breadboard 4. Theory o The AC power lines are composed of 1) Hot line 2) Newtral line and 3) Ground line (connected to the Earth point of a building). - AC power is delivered through Hot & Neutral lines. - The Ground line is not for power delivery but for safety. o Each experiment equipment usually has a ground code to plug-in to the Ground line to protect human being in case there's any high voltage leakage. - The ground code is usua l ly connected to the shas is or the metal cover of the equipment to provide a current path to the Ground line. * Identify the ground connection before you begin any electrical experiment. o DC Power supply GND (though it is named after "ground") port can be either isolated or connected to "+" or "-" ports.
