It combines both fast and slow rhythms for an exciting interval training style of workout aswell as resistance training (Zumba Toning). In a Zumba class the whole body is utilized through varyingdance movements. Here in Barbados, the Zumba instructors add a little twist to their Zumba classes byincorporating “calypso” music as well as “wukking up”. Calypso music is a genre of music found in theCaribbean while “wukking up” is a form of dancing practised here in Barbados. By incorporating thisgenre of music and style of dancing, more persons here are interested and excited to do a Zumba class.The goal of Zumba fitness classes is to improve balance, flexibility, coordination and cardiovascularendurance. The Zumba classes I participated in was 1 hr of pure dance and fitness moves! It felt morelike I was at a party more so than working out on the gym floor. The first few classes that I participated inwas fun but challenging. Keeping up with the instructor and the other participants was difficult at firstbut after continuous participation for over two months I felt like a pro! With each class I saw animprovement in my recovery time. Classes 5 and 6 became a lot easier.Zumba can help to decrease the risk of cardiovascular, pulmonary and metabolic diseases. Short term, an
