Unformatted text preview: Lisa Hatcher International Business 420 01W Importer Security Filing within the United States Trade Ports March 2, 2010 When researching to find a topic, it was difficult to narrow the field down. International business and the global economy is not a subject I blog about and it did require some in depth research. What I did discover is a new system designed for the security of the United States called the Importer Security Filing (Office, 2008, p. 2). I have to be honest and while reading about this topic, I was quite delighted that our security for the nation heightened in this area of trade. The sole purpose of this new filing for products entering into the United States is to help prevent terrorist weapons from being transported to the United States (Office, 2008, p. 2). The great idea behind the filing, required by the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection Department and Homeland Security, is all vessel carriers bringing cargo to the United States are required to transmit certain information to the agency forty-eight hours prior to arriving at port. (Office, 2008) With the age of technology it is amazing how the whole system works and contributes to a more secure way to receive imports for home of the free and the brave? All pertinent information is submitted electronically by way of a CPB approved electronic data interchange system. (Office, 2008) The system is designed to identify high risk shipments coming into the United States. (Office, 2008) The following paragraph will outline the new ruling and give guidelines for those importing into the United States. One of the questions from our assignment asked me how this information is relevant to International Business and globalization. The ruling by the Customs Bureau impacts every aspect of merchandise we receive from foreign soil into the United States. It directly impacts our security and foreign trade into our U.S ports. ports....
