FINAL EXAM 2 Final Exam Option #2: Interview Alan Vaughn, CPA, P.C. is an accounting firm. The company was opened in November of 2001. It is located at 3809 Sullivan Street, Suite 1 Madison, AL 35758. They specialize in income tax preparation, bookkeeping, QuickBooks, consulting, and financial planning. Their clients include individuals and small businesses. The individual being interviewed is Alan Vaughn. Alan Vaughn is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) that has been working in the accounting industry for more that twenty-two years. He is the sole owner and President of the company. There are currently three employees that work under his supervision. He has another CPA, a Staff Accountant, and an Office Manager. Since the company is so small, Alan Vaughn is responsible for overseeing all employees, operations, and also the production of all work that occurs within the company. He says that there is not much work that goes on in the company that he has not been a part of or at least reviewed before its completion (personal communication, July 16, 2010). The company has a great customer retention rate. According to Mr. Vaughn, their main means of advertising is in the Yellow Pages. He says roughly 60% of new clients mention his add in the Yellow Pages. He also says client referrals are a large part of obtaining new clients (personal communication, July 16, 2010). The company has grown every year since its inception in terms of new clients, gross income, and volume of work. One thing that makes the company stand out is the fact that they are so small. Customers enjoy the fact that they can call and talk to a person that they are familiar with. The staff is very friendly and can remember almost all clients by name and appearance. When dealing with clients on the phone, clients are able to call and speak with the same staff each time. Each staff member has clients that they deal with

FINAL EXAM 3 specifically. The importance of this is that each staff will be familiar with the client’s situation and be able to solve their problems at a quick rate. Many times clients can call and speak to Alan Vaughn himself. Considering the type of work that is being done, it is important for the clients to feel that they can trust the person doing their accounting work for them. There is one main issue that Alan Vaughn, CPA, P.C. needs to improve. When I asked
