Travels in a straight line. Acoustic Variables – identify certain waves as sound waves - Pressure – conc. of force – Pa = pascals - Density - conc. of mass within a volume – kg/cm 3 - Distance - measure of motion – cm, m Acoustic parameters – characteristic of sound ( features of sound wave) o Period, frequency, amplitude, power, intensity, speed, wavelength Period – time to complete one cycle P and F are both reciprocals Frequency - # of cycles in a second Sound beam strength Amplitude – dif. between the average value and max value of acoustic variable, expressed in dB, and amplitude decrease as sound propagates through the body.
