Demographics refer to statistical descriptions of characteristics of a population-thing like age, race, income, educational attainment and so on. The 4 changes identified are… 1) Growing Hispanic population vs. Black population 2) Decrease in number of American households consisted of married couples with their own children 3) Continuing population shifts from rustbelt states to sunbelt states 4) Aging population in America 3. 5 critical features that define an organization: 1) Existence of a social collectivity 2) Organizational and individual goals 3) Coordinating activity 4) Organizational structure 5) The embedding of the organization within an environment of other organizations 4. Different types of Organization: 1) Nonprofit organization 2) Service organizations (instead of manufacturing) 3) Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs)- Coordinate processes of change in first and third world nations 4) Cooperatives (co-ops)- For individuals with similar needs and goals to come together- Motivated by a concern for democracy, social justice, and environmental and global responsibility 5) Virtual Organizations 6) Social Organizations- Fraternities and sororities, families or groups of friends who are coordinating around valued goals and tasks Chapter 2: Classical Approaches 1.
