Tools: essential conversions From mole to grams: From gram to moles: From to moles to volume: From moles to molarity: From molarity to moles: mass (g) = moles x molar mass (g/mol) moles = mass (g) molar mass (g/mol) V = moles molarity (mol/L) moles = V x molarity (mol/L) molarity = moles V

Simplify: multiple girlfriends In a remote village in the USA each family consists of 1 guy and three girlfriends. Given that there are 27 girlfriends in that village, how many guys are there? The guy/girlfriend ratio is: 1 guy 3 girlfriends = 0.333 Number of guys: 27 girlfriends x 1 guy 3 girlfriends = 9 guys
Simplify: marbles Each bag of marbles contains 4 blue marbles, 5 white ones and 12 red ones. The total number of red marbles is 144. How many blue marbles are there? Intuitive: There are 144/12 = 12 bags. There are 4 blue marbles per bag. Thus, there are 4 x 12 = 48 blue marbles Ratios: 144 red marbles x 4 blue marbles 12 red marbles = 48 blue marbles
