1 STA2023 – LAB 1 Note that, if you wish, you can get a free 30-day trial subscription to Minitab at www.minitab.com (version 15) The California Energy Commission collects data on the amount of gasoline sold in each state. The table for question #53 on page 85 shows the per capita (gallons used per person) consumption in the year 2004, by state. 1. Open Minitab and enter the data from page 85 (question #53) into column C1 of the worksheet. Be sure to include all 50 states. Title this C1 column with Gas Usage . Only enter the gas usage data, not the state. 2. In the session window of Minitab, type in the names of each person in your group (if printing, you want to get YOUR work). Next, use Minitab to find the mean, 5-number summary, and standard deviation of the data. To do so, click on STAT, Basic Statistics, Display Descriptive Statistics, double-click on the C1 variable (Gas Usage) to select this as the variable, then click OK. Do not print the session window, you will be adding more information to the session window in the next question. 3.
