LAB 111: PROJECTILE MOTION Mariam Selevany, Mohammed Ahmed, Abdul Wali, Andre Amparo, Alfred Continanza Mr. Chiranjivi Lamsal Physics 111A 9-23-10 Introduction: The purpose of the lab is to predict where a target of given size should be placed in order to be hit by a projectile leaving a table in a horizontal direction. Also, the 2 nd purpose is to measure the range of a projectile leaving table at (measured) angle, and then use this value to predict where the projectile will strike the floor. Procedure: Part 1 -Set up the launcher on an edge of a table and than launch the projectile in a horizontal direction from the edge of the table, and note where it strikes the floor (use carbon paper). -Measure the x and y distances as shown in the figure. -Using the measured values of x and y calculate Vo. -Measure the Height H of the target above the floor. -Calculate the distance D where the target should be placed for the projectile to strike it. Clearly show your calculations of a separate page labeled “calculation sheet”. -Measure the distance D where the projectile actually strikes the target. -Repeat this trial 5 times and for each one record results in a table.
