1 ISOM 111 Business Statistics Course Information Instructor Inchi Hu, Professor of ISOM, Room 4436, 2358-7734 (O) Email: [email protected] Class Meets: L5 12:00 – 13:30 Mon/Wed, Rm 2407 L6 10:30 – 12:00 Mon/Wed, Rm 2407 Office hours: By appointment Objective and intended learning outcomes The objective of the course is to equip students with basic c oncepts and tools in statistical thinking and reasoning so th at they can handle uncertainty in business environment effectively. These basic concepts and tools in clude numerical and graphical descr iption o f data , discre te and con tinuous random va riables a nd their proba bility distributions, sa mpling distributions, e stimation, hypothesis testing, and linear regression. At the end of the course students should be able to Compute statistics from data for organizing information, estimation, hypothesis testing, and running linear regression. Interpret results and draw conclusions from statistical analysis Apply statistical analysis to solve business problems Teaching method The method is lecture aided by directed discussion. A short case will be presented first to motivate the concepts and m ethods. Then the content of the relevant concepts and m ethods will be
