Sam Cummings Pf. Mello Public Communication Fall 2010 Stephen Harper Speech Critique Prime Minster Harper’s extensive speech on the issues facing Anti- Semitism and Israel in general was presented in an incredibly professional manner. His introduction to the speech is welcoming and uniting. He makes sure to include everyone in the audience in his greetings and lets each of them know how grateful he is that they are there. He dedicates over a minute of a twelve-minute speech to strictly thanking and welcoming everyone. When he finally begins to delve into the actual matter at hand his tone drops and his voice lowers to ensure people recognize the seriousness of the matter to which he is speaking. He references a trip he took to a concentration camp in Ukraine shortly before the speech was given; this gives good ground for the remainder of his performance. He uses this trip to give a backbone to the injustices done to Jews all over the world and to lead into what can and should be done to change
