MIS 302F, Fall 2010 Homework 1 Background: In this assignment, you will come up with an idea for a new company and its main software product. Your definition and analysis will include the company, its business model, industry structure, competitive strategy, SMART goals, and process definitions. Your company will offer any type of software that you like. It may be a desktop/laptop type of software (e.g., Microsoft Office, iTunes, etc.), a web-based software (e.g., Facebook, Google Docs, etc.), or a mobile app. Your company must market to, at minimum, the entire United State. This will help ensure that your company is big enough to relate to the concepts that we will discuss in class. Your company cannot be based on any variation of a class management software (i.e., Blackboard) or social networking (i.e., Facebook). We will use these examples in class. Homework Details: This homework is the first of five assignments worth 20% of your final course grade. It is an individual assignment. It is due on Blackboard BEFORE 10:59am on Tuesday, September 14. Late assignments will not be accepted. To start on your homework, use the template on the next page. There is also an example of a completed assignment based on a Blackboard-like software company. To complete in your homework, use the template on the next page. Save it as a single page and replace the “help” text in the template with your work. Include your name and UTeID in the box provided. Your document must fit on a single page. Blackboard Instructions:
