Unformatted text preview: Amanda Julia Santana Eric Domestic violence is a dilemma that affects our nation as a whole and is heavily reflected in our music culture today. Domestic violence is not something that people find easy to talk about and is usually kept behind closed doors. However, or some reason people in today’s society feel more comfortable expressing their experiences or feelings to complete strangers through lyrics. An example of these expressions would be Goodbye Earl by The Dixie Chicks about an abused woman who eventually murders her abusive husband. “Good Bye Earl” by the Dixie Chicks relates the story of an abusive husband named Earl and his wife Wanda. Earl and Wanda are portrayed as a young married couple whose marriage takes a turn for the worse shortly after they are wed. As the lyrics state below, Earl becomes verbally, mentally and physically abusive to Wanda.
