Tips: Analysis To Writing 1. Double Check the Assignment Requirements a. 5 interviews b. 5 pages double spaced c. a research question and group that match the project prompt (i.e. d. You do NOT need to turn in any more project field notes e. You WILL need to submit your rough draft and peer review sheet w/the final paper 2. Analyzing Your Data: a. Take all of the information you’ve gathered for/from this project: i. Are there any patterns? (note all of them, using an Excel sheet or code words 1 if it helps) ii. Is there anything that happened that surprised you? (say every instance) iii. What did you learn about your project question? iv. Did you learn anything your project question did not anticipate? v. What are the best quotations and observations that you/your informants made? (list all) b. Now you should have something to say. 3. Putting Your Analysis into Writing a. Make an argument/thesis statement – one argument that can be proven with several paragraphs i. Thesis statements should be: compelling, clear and relatively uncomplicated (so that you can make your point in 5 pages), supported with ethnographic evidence ii. Thesis statements should not be: obvious, uninteresting, unsupported, vague, overly complicated 1 Excel sheet or code words: If you notice that informants, for instance, consistently look at environmentalism as
