Jason Murray 10/06/2010 Economics 2301 David Peek Title: How Blockbuster Failed at Failing Source: Time Magazine Date: October 2010 Overview: This is an article that briefly explains the mitigating factors that led to Blockbuster Video filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This particular issue that Blockbuster is currently facing REALLY hits home with me. The drama that is currently playing out with Blockbuster is almost exactly the same disaster that I faced 8 years ago, when my video rental (VHS….pre DVD) store met with a very sudden demise. I would have to say that my problem was on a much smaller scale than Blockbuster’s, but devastating none the less. I purchased a video rental business in 1993, which was the heyday for that kind of business, and even at that time I knew from the past, that sooner or later a newer more attractive technology would eventually cause my business to lose its popularity.
