The last census showed that a language other than English is spoken in about 17 percent of homes in America. They are predicting that the number of students who come into the education system and do not speak English first will continue to increase. This article goes on to talk about how not knowing English and being able to understand the grammar and word usage is seen as a handicap, and that to help them tutors need to offer extra help and work more on getting them to understand the language and master it.
