A portable home oxygen unit would be considered durable medical equipment and is it would use HCPCS codes E0100-E9999. The rational for this is because this piece of equipment is designed to be re-used in a patients home. Emergency ambulance transport and extended life support would be A0000- A0999. The rational for this is based on table. 6.1 on pg 191 where is states that medical transportation is all inclusive. Diagnostic mammogram of the left breast would fall under R0009-R9999 these are the HCPCS codes for diagnostic radiology procedures with the modifier -LT. The rational for this is because it is a diagnostic test that is being performed and so it would be coded under the diagnostic radiology HCPCS codes also using the modifier to indicate that the procedure was performed on the left side of the body. Injection of Cortisone into the right shoulder would be coded with HCPCS codes J0000-J8999 and the modifier -RT to indicate that the procedure was performed on the right side of the body.
