Program Summary Page 2 Program Summary Overview The PEACE Domestic Violence Agency of the city of Portland is an agency that seeks to improve the lives of those affected by domestic violence. The Agency does this by providing direct services and education to domestic violence victims that are designed to reduce victim trauma, empower survivors, and promote recovery. The city of Portland is a large metropolitan area that has experienced increasing reports of domestic and youth violence, spousal and child abuse, and assaults over the last five years. It is the mission of the PEACE Domestic Violence Agency to reduce the number of victims of these crimes and ensure that survivors of these crimes do not fall victim to such crimes again. Assessment The target population of the PEACE Domestic Violence Agency is the victims of domestic violence. Nationally one in four women has experienced domestic violence in her lifetime. Estimates range from 960,000 incidents of violence against a current or former spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend to 3 million women who are physically abused by their husband or boyfriend per year. It is also estimated that at least fifty percent of those men whom are violent toward their spouse are also violent with their children. Many victims do not come forward for fear of retaliation or because of their feelings for their tormenter are strong and they submit to these feelings against better judgment. Programs offered by the PEACE Domestic Violence Agency (and agencies like it) provide victims with the education and resources needed to stay safe from domestic violence. Needs and Problem Statement Over the past decade the Portland community has seen a drastic increase in the amount of victims of domestic violence. Domestic violence affects men, women and children alike and has become a cycle in the victims’ lives that is increasing hard to break. Many victims of domestic
