Nicole Rushin page 1 Nicole Rushin English 1102 “Cloning is it playing God” Is it ok to Clone people and animals? Is cloning Playing God? Is cloning unethical? Is cloning a great way to find answers to disease? What are the different types of cloning? Many people have different views on this topic some believe it's just scientists playing God. To understand this topic we have to know, what is cloning? According to the Wikipedia, “cloning refers to the process of creating copies of DNA fragments cells or organisms.” ( www.wikipedia.com ). Discovers in 1997 by Scottish scientist at Roslin Institute in 1997 like the Dolly the sheep have made cloning a reality. This topic has so many different views on the subject the people that are for this form of science. And are those that think that this would be helpful in finding an advance cure for so many of the different disease that plagues our society. Some of the things that will help with the plague of our society are Steam cell research, aids and cancer. Those that are oppose to this kind of science seem to be from a religious back ground and are totally against it, because they feel no one but God should be able to make those discussion, and that this could affect the world as we know it tremendously. It seems to be more people who are oppose to this type of science. Than those who are for it. An article by United States Department of Energy office of science had very interesting point of views on this subject such as, reproductive cloning, “Reproductive cloning is a technology used to generate an animal that has the same nuclear DNA as another currently or previously existing animal’. (Human Genome) The article discussed the first cloned animal Dolly the sheep in 1997.

Nicole Rushin page 2 Many people thought this was great because it showed that technology had really expanded, but there were the people that disagreed ; who felt the purpose of reproduction was to do it the way God intended it. In the process of cloning discovers show that this was not only difficult for the animal or the person being cloned but also on the living being that had to carry the embryo. According to an article on reproductive cloning by, United States. Department of Energy office of science states, “Scientist transfer genetic material from the nucleus of it 6’s donor adult cell to an egg whose nucleus, and its genetic material, has been moved. The reconstructed egg contacting DNA from a donor cell must be treated with chemicals or electric current in order to stimulate cell division. Once the cloned embryo reaches a suitable stage, it is transferred to the uterus of a female host where it continues to develop until birth.” (Human Genome) We must admit it was remarkable when we first heard about Dolly the sheep because this was something we only saw in movies. There are so many side effects associated with cloning, such as death, deformity and
