Dropping of the Atomic Bomb --------The atomic Bomb Atomic bomb begins the nuclear age. They way the war ended with an atomic bomb caused consternation meaning feeling anxiety or something unexpected in the U.S since WW2. There was an exhibit for the atomic bomb that was thrown for the 50th anniversary but they had said that the bomb was actually not thrown to save lives, which caused controversy. Now in that museum they removed all hints that the bomb might not save Americans and removed japanese victims. In 1995 exhibit they only focused on the Enola Gay which was the aircraft that dropped the first atomic bomb. In 1999 a panel of national journalist called the dropping of the atomic bomb the most important news event of the 20th century. People argue that the bomb was to end the war and saved american lives. ---------Japanese Pacific Empire 1942 When the War began for the U.S, made a conscious decision to focus its efforts in Europe with Hitler and the Nazis. Europe was more important than Asia. They left the pacific for the Navy to defend. The japaenses were able to extend their empire. The Japanese were stopped with their expansion, an important battle for the U.S, technical victory for the U.S fought between two natives as Japanenes. Japanese were not able to conduct the pacific. They were trying to approach now to defeat the Japanese. ----------Island Hopping Strategy That approach is called an island hopping strategy, the U.S tried to avoid direct confrontation with the main body of the Japanese army. If there was an island in the pacific that had a large force of japanese soldiers they would avoid and take places it would minimize casualties to island from island. The U.S slowly worked its way up to the Japanese home islands. Invade and take Eva Jima to an island. ---------Japanese Already Defeated in 1942 By 1945 it was becoming clear to U.S military leaders that Japan's defeat was certain. General George Kennedy , commander of the air force said that the Japanese aren't going to last any longer and that they are largely defeated. To add the U.S had broken the Japanese code and monitoring Japanese communication. They knew the war was over. Japanese are isolated and starved to death. The U.S could surround Japan and wait for them to starve to death. This was apparent to military leaders by 1945. ---------Firebombing Campaign March 1945 In March of 1945, the United States began a fire bombing campaign of Japan. For a number of years they worked on this tactic, fire bombing, sticking cine Airy bombs the size of a white board markers. Very simple design. Dropping hundreds of bombs, makes
