Hindu Terms Exercise There are many technical terms necessary for understanding Hinduism. Based on this week’s readings by Fisher, complete the following exercise then send as an attachment in your Assignments Section. 1. Define karma , reincarnation , samsara , and moksha . How do these terms relate to one another? Karma: The effects of a person’s actions that determine his destiny in his next incarnation. Reincarnation: A person may be reborn successively into one of five classes of living beings (god, human, animal, hungry, ghost or denizen of hell) depending on the persons own actions. Samsara: The endless cycle of birth and suffering and death and rebirth. Moksha: Is the liberation from samsara and the concomitant suffering involved in being subject to the cycle of repeated death and reincarnation. 2. Explain what yoga is, and list and explain the basic types. Yoga: Discipline aimed at training the consciousness for a state of perfect spiritual insight and tranquility. 1.
