Bernal 2 Contrary to what many people think, It is very simple to gain access to weapons and ammo even if you are not of age. For example this is a direct quote from a student who posted on a blog about how he had purchased ammo underage for himself and his friends as gifts. “you gotta be 21 for some reason .... the ammo applies to that law to which is retarded (i could buy a 9mm carbine but not the ammo) but i have never had a problem buying handgun ammo before (ive bought some for friends as gifts)” (Arnold 2010) Quotes like this make a person realize that gun laws should be stricter. The purchase of ammo and weapons should be more closely watched. Although this might not happen every day, it happens too much. Throughout history there have been many incidents of young students gaining access to weapons and ammo. Another example is one that everyone in America is familiar with, Columbine High school. Young students gained access to assault rifles and reeked terror on the school, killing several students and a teacher and injuring many others. Even though gun control laws have gotten increasingly tougher, weapons should be more difficult to obtain. More crimes are committed due to illegal weapon sales. Facts and statistics will be provided concerning the gun laws and reasons why the United States should consider making the gun laws tougher. For arguments sake, there will also be facts from a different view, a view that suggests the gun laws are already too strict. Many Americans believe it is their right to own a weapon of their choice. Technically Americans do have a right under the Second Amendment to bear arms but that does not mean it should be extremely simple to obtain a weapon. It is a fact that the United States holds the title of the most per capita gun related deaths among other nations. For example, fire arm related deaths in the United States are 95 times then the amount of deaths in Asia although most deaths are due to suicide. The reason for this is because in most countries in Asia the sale of weapons is much more regulated. In many

Bernal 3 countries, guns are the most frequently used weapon in suicides and homicides. This is most certainly true in regards to the United States, where 61% of suicides and 71% of homicides are gun related. (Alba 2005) Gun related incidents are the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. If the county made the decision to toughen up the weapons laws then these numbers would surely decrease. If the numbers of gun related deaths were compared to other international countries, the comparisons would not be close. In Canada homicides involving guns was only 0.5 out of 100,000 people. In the United States homicides involving guns is 3.8 out of

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
