Unformatted text preview: Ber nal Migration Strategies and Solutions Brittanee Bernal November 14, 2010 Energy is all around us, we use energy in almost everything we do in life. Not only do we use energy in all different aspects of our life, we use all different kinds of energy. Energy can best be defined as a source of useable power. This is the type of energy most used but there is plenty of other way to define energy. Energy can be provided in different forms, companies can provide energy that we use as well as nature can provide needed energy. Humans are the main source of energy use. Humans can have a both negative and positive effect on the environment and the conservation of energy. The problem of energy conservation is a growing issue and the issue is growing at a very fast rate. The amount of energy being wasted across the United States is outrageous. Non renewable resources have been greatly affected by humans and the trend continues. Energy conservation is a must to conserve natural resources to help save our environment. The biggest issue that is facing the United States right now as far as resources is the conservation of energy. Discovering methods to reduce the amount of energy used versus the amount of energy wasted is energy conservation. Many times it is underestimated just how much we actually use energy for and how much of it we use. Some simple things that use large amounts of energy include; cooking and preparing food, being on a computer, and keeping our homes lit. These daily activities would be impossible without the amount of energy we use. Another major use of energy is running the air conditioning unit, in southern states, air conditioning units might be used almost all year around. Many items we use energy for are luxury items like computers and air conditioning. Some items that do require we use energy include refrigerators and freezers. Energy is being used up even when we are not using household appliances. A way to save energy and money would be to make sure our appliances are unplugged and not just turned off. Energy can be broken up into two different types of energy; we use non renewable and renewable energy resources. Fortunately, most of the energy consumed in the United States is considered renewable, which means it is generated by wind, water, sun, and vegetation. Non renewable energy resources are from nature and cannot be restored or replenished by human means. Non renewable resources that produce and make energy include; oil, coal, and gas. (EPA p.1) A challenge of using renewable resources is price, supply, and demand....
