Social and cultural explanations play a more important role than biology does. Biases that have a powerful effect when psychologists conduct research about either women or gender comparisons: o People’s expectations can influence results. Researchers who expect to find gender differences will often tend to find them. Many participants also have expectations about cognitive gender differences. o Biased samples can affect results. We know almost nothing about adults who don’t attend college. The majority of research focuses on European Americans in the U.S. and Canada. o The scores of males and females typically produce overlapping distributions. Distributions of male and female characteristics rarely show separation. Male and female scores overlap considerably. o Researchers seldom find gender differences in all situations. Many men and women have remarkably similar psychological characteristics in many situations. o
