Sabrina Lauredent Bio 100 November 1, 2010 Lab 8: Graphing I. Pre Lab Info -Working to find and describe patters and to describe the strength of a curvilinear relationships. - Review making a bar graph and how to incorporate Excel graphs into a word Document A. Review of Polynomials -The relationship between variables often is not linear; changes in x doesn’t always affect y -The slope of the line varies resulting in a curvilinear line. -a polynomial function is expressed as f(x)= ax²+bx+c B. Using Excel to Describe Relationships -order refers to the number of terms in the function generated to describe the trend -example Order=2 f(x)=ax²+bx+c; Order=3 f(x)=ax³+bx²+cx+d II. In-Laboratory Exercises A. Graphing and Interpreting a Curvilinear Relationship -Using our recall data file we will create a curvilinear graph -Construct the graph using a scatter plot and inputting the correct labels B. Customize your graph by editing the axes, chart format and possible the markers C. Adding Trend-lines to Graph with a curvilinear relationship
