Abraham J. Avila CWV-101 12/15/19Matthew HamptonBenchmark - Gospel EssentialsThe world we live in today is not what God had initially had in mind for humanity when He created everything. God's purpose for humanity was to dwell among his creation, but the fall of Adam and Eve separated us from Him. Today, because of His son Jesus, we can have that personal relationship He created us to have with Him. There are still debates and disagreements over the secondary areas of beliefs or practices of Christianity. Because of this, we see so many churches and denominations around the world. Despite the differences of these denomination, they all hold one central belief and that it is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, and that all humanity is sinful and only through Jesus, we can be reconciled to God. These fundamentals are the basis of what those with Christian worldview believe. They believe in a sovereign God who sent His son Jesus to die for the sins of the world so He may restore all of humanity's relationship with God.GodThere are so many things we can say about what God is like, but I’ll give you four, God is a spirit, God is a person, God is holy, and God is love. First, God is a spirit. Jesus tells the Samaritan woman at the well in Sychar that God is spirit (John 4:24 NIV). God being a spirit means He is not limited to a body, shape, force, or boundaries. He is immeasurable and undiscernable to the human eye because they are limited to physical things. God can be 1
everywhere at the same time. There is absolutely no limit to God. Second, The bible reveals God as a person. We see this when we read, “God Loves,” “God says,” “God does.” A person is one who feels, thinks, wishes, desires, and shows the expression of personalities. A body does not bound God, but He is a person who feels, thinks, loves, and forgives. Third, God is holy. His holiness determines all other attributes of God. Because of God’s holiness, we are separated fromHim because of sin (Isaiah 59:2 NIV). God can have nothing to do with sin. And fourth, God is love. The love of God is the nature that is misunderstood. Many people feel because of God’s love; there is no way He allows punishment for our sins. It is God’s holiness that demands that all sins be punished, but His love provides a plan of redemption and salvation for sinful people. It was God’s love that sent His son Jesus to the cross (John 3:16 NIV). The apostle Paul writes, “God demonstrates His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8 NIV)God’s love for us is just one of the many characteristics or attributes of God revealed in the bible. As you read Psalms 145, it shows us more of God’s attributes like gracious and compassionate (v. 8), good (v. 9), trustworthy (v. 13), giving (v. 16), righteous and faithful (v.
