Globalization is not a trend or a fad. It is the international systems that replaced the Cold War system We study OM because it is such a costly part of an organization. A large percentage of the revenue of most firms is spent in the OM function. OM provides a major opportunity for an organization to improve its profitability and enhance its service to society. A company the textbook used was Fisher Technologies, a small firm that has to double their dollar contribution to fixed cost and profit in order to be profitable enough to purchase the next generation of production equipment. If the firm fails to increase contribution, its bank will refuse to make a loan, and the equipment will not be purchased, thus putting the firm out of business. Solution is three different options.
