Merran Esson was born in Tumbarumba, NSW Australia, and in the mid 1970's studied ceramics at Caulfield Institute of Technology. After travelling and living in London, Merran returned to Australia in 1977 establishing a studio in Sydney. In 2004 Merran completed her Masters Degree at Monash University. Merran Esson has had 7 solo exhibitions and exhibited in numerous group exhibitions. The Australian National Gallery in Canberra, regional and state galleries, corporate and private collections, have collected her work. The bodies of the pots have the elastic, biomorphic nature of simple marine life- forms, like polyps or sea anemones. They seem to be in the process of breathing
