June 2010 Dear friends, The details of your summer assignment for Advanced Placement Biology can be found below. I encourage you to take your time with the assignment. Do not attempt to cram it in at the last minute. The text is: Biology by Neil A. Campbell and Jane B. Reece, AP Edition #8. Assignment: 1. Install any “plug ins” that are required by either the cd-rom or the web content. For example, you may have to load Quicktime or Macromedia Flash to have the software work correctly. The links to these “plug ins” are provided on the cd-rom or on the premium access site. 2. Read: Chapters 1-6, paying special attention to the following topics: Chapter 1: Basically this is a “ yea rah rah, welcome back to Biology” chapter! Important: Be sure to familiarize yourself with the seven unifying themes that are explained in this chapter. Also review the concept covered in 1.3 about scientific inquiry. Chapter 2 : This is an overview of chemistry. Be sure you are familiar with these concepts. Note: A cd-rom commonly comes with this text; however it is not required due to the fact that I have secured accounts for all of you to the premium web content for this book. Directions on accessing online content will be distributed separately.
