Social Development Research The article I chose is “Social and Emotional Patterns in Adulthood: Support for Socioemotional Selectivity Theory”. The reason why I picked this specific article was due to the relevance of the topic and our current Chapter this week. During the process of reading the article I was able to familiarize with it, because of some of the terms I just learned about in class. Which were the disengagement theory and activity theory, both revolving around the aging process of becoming older (retirement age). If I had to write a paper on this topic, yes I would use this article. This article challenges both theories. There is evidence, performed studies, and facts to prove both theories to be true. This article questions both theories, and offers evidence and suggestions as to why these theories are relevant to aging. The disengagement theory aging produces a gradual withdrawal from the world on physical, psychological, and social levels. However, such disengagement serves an important
