Shelley M Hobbs History 1302 Final Summer I 3) What were the major themes of the Progressive Era? Major themes of the Progressive Era were socialism, journalism, democracy which let the voters decide, efficiency that brought new ideas from municipal government. Also regulation and social justice let to the Era. The progressive Era was all about what was in the public interest. 4) What did Plessy vs. Ferguson really mean to the African American Population of the New South? The Plessy vs. Ferguson was a turning point for African Americans in the New South. After Plessy was found guilty over and over again for not leaving the “white” car on a train, it didn’t look like he had changed much but after a while the “separate but equal” doctrine was developed. This was a step closer for African Americans for getting equal treatment. 6) How effective was the civil rights movement of the 50’s and 60’s, was it successful and when did it start to lose momentum?
