In “ Kim Yusin: Worship of the Three Guardian Spirits ” Samguk Yusa presents a Kim Yusin who was born for greatness and “gifted from birth” ”(Yusa 1:60). Samguk Yusa account takes place during Kim’s young adulthood where Kim is traveling with his fellow hwarang Paeksok to spy on rival countries Koguryo and Paekche. There they run into three girls. After shareing food and conversation the girls convince Kim to follow them to the forest alone. In the forest Yusa’s account again demonstrates Kim Yusin’s divine gifts as the three girls transform into spirits and warn Kim that Paeksok is plotting to kill Kim. When interrogated Paesok confesses “he is a man of Koguryo,” and that he was ordered to kill Kim because he was reincarnation of a “Koguryo diviner”who promised to be “reborn as a general who will destroy Koguryo”(Yusa 1:60-61). This last point firmly sets the precedent for Kim’s future conquest. Furthermore it gives the impression that Kim’s authority is not only derived from his natural
