Achieving the Dream Dear Students, The First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FCHCC) and the Mayor’s Hispanic American Council (MHAC) is proud to continue with its tradition of supporting education in our community. This brochure contains scholarship requirements, selection criteria and an application form. We encourage you to apply for our 2009 Achieving the Dream Scholarships. Please note that both scholarships are separate and have separate criteria for each application. First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FCHCC): BASIS FOR SELECTION Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit, based solely on the content of the application. Applications will be evaluated and selections made by a panel of judges consisting of current officers, and/or directors of the FCHCC. Applicants’ scores will be based upon the following criteria: Academic Transcripts and Grades. ........ 20% Honors and Awards. ............................... 20% Extracurricular Activities. ......................... 40% Essay. ...................................................... 20% DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION Applications must be received no later than September 4, 2009. Applications can be sent via mail to: FCHCC Re: Achieving the Dream Scholarship Application P.O. Box 57972 Jacksonville, FL 32241 Selections will be made by the scholarship selection committee. Recipients will be informed in early October and honored at our annual scholarship event on October 23, 2009. Or via e-mail to: [email protected] SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS The FCHCC has established scholarships in the amount of up to $2,000 to be awarded to Hispanic students that meet the following criteria: • The applicant must be currently accepted to and planning to attend a two- or four-year university, or currently a full-time undergraduate student that has maintained a GPA average of 3.0 or better. • The applicant must not be more than a third generation Hispanic with established residency in the Florida First Coast region: Duval, St. Johns, Clay, Baker or Nassau Counties; for at least three (3) years prior to the awarding date of the scholarship. • Applicants must submit with their application, copies of grades, show proof of enrollment and an essay between 400-450 words on why they need or deserve to receive this scholarship. • The stipend will be used to pay for tuition and/or books and will be in addition to and not to conflict
