Micelle -> Chylomicron (containing Apo-B, C, E) -> Liver (with receptors) ->  VLDL (with Apo B, C, E) -> Lipoprotein lipase causes FFA to exit VLDL and  enter tissue cells -> becomes IDL, process continues till it becomes LDL LDL’s Apo-B receptors become attracted to Apo-B receptors in Arteries

Unformatted text preview: ← ← Atherosclerosis • Histology – by late adolescents almost all of us have build up of cholesterol in arteries (particularly branching artery) • Injury causes Apo-B receptors of LDL to attract • LDL becomes stuck in artery walls • LDL releases cytokines (help me calls) for white blood cells • LDL becomes oxidized, releases cytokines • CRP (C- Reactive Protein) – response to infections; predictor of Heart attack and stroke because of the attraction to cytokines • Multiple LDL create a large foam cells o Side view shows long fatty streaks • Calcium and plaque enter into foam cells, hardens • Several foam cells gather/form around artery wall and constrict artery o Causes stroke and heart attack 21/01/2010 21:51:00 ← 21/01/2010 21:51:00 ←...
