Shahrukh Khalique English II-H Period 6 th March 03, 2010 Mr. Lamb Things Fall Apart Take- Home Essay Test 1. Chinua Achebe wanted to show the European misconception of the African Cultures. He depicts that in the book: The Pacification of The Primitive Tribes of The Lower Niger . This show the lack of care and depth on the part of the Europeans. Achebe wanted to end the story with a “gotcha back” moment, and he succeeded. It was done in a very profoundly manor. The District Commissioner is way out of touch with the Africans, and the perfect example of it is the novel itself. The ending makes the Umuofians trials very miniature. The commissioner believes the death of Okonkwo, killing of a commissioner, and all the difficulties Umuofians went through can be written in a few paragraphs. Again, this shows the negligence, and how out of touch they were with the Ibo Culture. 2. Women in Okonkwo's don't play that of a big role. The biggest think with Okonkwo is that he dislikes femininity. He favors masculinity because he fears that he will be like his father. Who was lazy, and was in debt.
