Purpose of the Experiment The aim of this experiment is to determine the stres values on a thin-walled pressure vessel and compare with theroretical results. The Theory It is known from the theory that principal stresses on a thin walled pressure vessel, at sufficient distance from any irregularities (i.e., the side- caps or oil inlet) lay in the axial and tangential directions. Thus, the stress distribution is two-dimensional, and under these assumptions, is computed using membrane approach.
