Purpose of the Experiment The aim of this experiment is to determine the stres values on a thin-walled pressure vessel and compare with theroretical results. The Theory It is known from the theory that principal stresses on a thin walled pressure vessel, at sufficient distance from any irregularities (i.e., the side- caps or oil inlet) lay in the axial and tangential directions. Thus, the stress distribution is two-dimensional, and under these assumptions, is computed using membrane approach. The axial stress component, a σ , can be derived using the static equilibrium of the side cap: s 4 d p 4 d p d s a 2 a = σ π = σ π The tangential stress component, t σ , is calculated in a similar manner: s 2 d p s 2 d p t = σ σ = The Experiment

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
