INTRODUCTION Heat can be transfered in gaseous, liquid or solid media and heat transfer has three different modes: - Conduction - Convention - Radiation In this experiment, “conduction” will be examined. In thermal conduction heat is transferred by kinetic motion, direct impact of molecules (case of fluid at rest) or by the drift of electrons (in the case of metals). The state is also crucial in heat transfer, if the heat distribution in the medium varies in time, it is called “transient state”; if it does not vary in time, it is called “steady state”. Steady-state heat transfer analysis is used to determine temperature distribution, heat flow and heat flux in steady-state conditions. The heat flux is proportional to the temperature gradient. The proportionality constant is called the conductivity of the material. Fourier's Law states that, The heat flow rate (q) is same for each section of the conductor, also the thermal conductivity (k) is assumed to be constant.
