Know how to answer questions at the end of chapter 1: # 2, 6,7,8, 10, 11, 12, 16 and 17. At end of chapter 2: # 1, 2, 3, 4, 13 (just drawing the titration curve part of the question) At the end of chapter 4: 1,2,3,4,5, 14, 15, 16 Write a functional definition of pKa Hint: always begin the answer for a “definition” question with “such and such is…..” So for this question start out with “pKa is…….” So then what is pKa??? pKa is a particular pH that occurs for a solution in which the concentration of the weak acid in solution equals the concentration of its conjugate base Second hint…..such definitions are NEVER “pKa is when…..” What happens when small amounts of strong base or strong acid are added to a buffer solution whose pH is near the pKa? Describe both what happens to the pH, AND what happens to the molecules present in solution…. What conditions affect the interactions between macromolecules? What are all the functional groups present in amino acids and how are the named? What is a chiral C and which amino acids have chiral carbons? Which amino acid(s) have no chiral carbon? Which amino acids have more than one chiral carbon?
