Mupas IV-31 B.S Psychology Submitted To: Dr. Adelaida C. Gines November 23, 2010 The Effects of Motivation on Task Persistence and Performance Attainment of Fourth Year High School Students By Genalin V. Ceballo 2006 Part I. Abstract (on separate paper) Part I I. Reaction a) Title: The Effects of Motivation on Task Persistence and Performance Attainment of Fourth Year H igh School Students The title of this research is composed of important elements of an experimental research design which are independent variable, dependent variable and participants. The independent variable in this title is motivation while the dependent variables are task persistence and performance attainment. Fourth year high school students are the participants included in this title. I observed that the title lacks other elements like social milieu and school year that can be optional. I ts better if the title has all the five elements of an experimental research title. However, it is clear that the title has identified the independent variable and dependent variable. According to an article that I had read about characteristics of an experimental research design, the title must have the keywords like the effects of and on. These words can be a basis that the title is an experimental one. Fortunately, the title has these words. b) Methodology/Research Design The methodology utilized by this experimental research is pretest- posttest method. Like what we had studied, I noticed that the research used experimental group and control group. They were measured and observed twice at the same time. Also, I had read that the researcher used random assignment in which participants were of the same ability, gender, family size and income and mental capacity. Teacher made test and researcher made questionnaire were also used to determine effects of independent variable on the dependent variables. While reading the research, I observed that the methodology was has complete format. The independent variable was clearly the cause while the dependent variables were evidently the effects. I also noticed that the participants were assigned as experimental group and control group through random assignment in which the researcher stated that there was an assurance that all the participants were of the same in many aspects. Because of this, I can say that maybe threats like history and differential selection were eliminated. For sources of data, the researcher utilized teacher made test and researcher made questionnaire which both passed significant validity and reliability. Enough repeated t rials and revisions were made before the final administration of the instruments. The statistical employed in the study were Independent t-test, ANOVA and others which...
