APSC112 Problems 1A: Kinematics Problems 1 is in 3 parts and covers all the material in Section 1 of the course. Dynamics problems cannot be done until a clear understanding of kinematics has been obtained. These problems, and possibly others, will be discussed in the Frst tutorial. Have the formula sheets handy as you work through the problems, both at home and in tutorials. Make sure that you examine the posted solutions of any that you are unable to Fnish. A1. Fig. A1 shows 2 identical pulleys, A and C , on ±xed axles joined by a belt B which does not slip. Each pulley can be considered to be 2 disks of radii r and R welded together. Cords supporting masses m and M are wound around two of the disks as shown. (i) If A is rotating with angular velocity ω A and acceleration α A , ±nd the angular velocity and acceleration of pulley C , and the linear velocities and accelerations of the 2 masses. (ii) Pulley
