o Intrauterine fetal corrective surgery has a high rate of risk to mother o Abortion can be performed until point of viability/can be beyond point of viability if mother’s health is in jeopardy o Nurses do have the right to refuse to assist in abortion but need to make sure a qualified replacement is available o Children (mother’s) under the age of 18 yrs can legally give consent & refuse care for their own fetus without their parent/legal guardian’s permission---also if they are legally emancipated minors---between 16-18 yrs if seeking birth control/mental health/substance abuse assistance o Neonatal Mortality Rate: Includes infants less than 28 days old per 1000 live births o Perinatal Mortality Rate: Includes both neonatal & fetal deaths per 1000 live births Includes: neonates 28 days old or fetal death 20 weeks gestation *Fetal death is a death in utero at 20 weeks gestation o Family Types: Nuclear/Dual Career-Dual Earner/Childless/Extended/Single o Newborns: Measure-Head Circumference/Weight/Height
