Development Plan 2 A professional portfolio that includes a professional development plan is required of students or prospective educators to indicate how far they have come in there soon to be profession. This paper will be a brief description of my professional development plan. Some of the things that will be discussed are five and ten year goals and areas that need to be improved for me to be effective as an educator. There are existing professional programs that will be discussed that will also be a help prepare myself for the diverse needs of learners. The amount of progress that is made by an educator and the areas one must improve is important to the professional development as well. The final two things that will be discussed are techniques that will be used to develop leadership skills and the types of organizations I will join t help with professional development. Hopefully, this portfolio will help to gain the professional position that is desired. There are three goals that I have set for myself to achieve in the next five years. The first goal is to obtain my bachelors degree in early education from the University of Phoenix. I feel that I am well on my way to obtaining this goal because of all the support that I am receiving from my friends, family, co-workers and instructors. Having a support staff around when trying to achieve goals is probably the most important aspect of setting and achieving goals. My next goal is to enroll in a master’s program at the same university that I received my bachelor’s degree from. The plan is to get my masters degree in Special Education, and become a Special Education teacher at the secondary level. These are the three goals that I have set for myself to achieve in the next five years. I have already taken steps in the right directions to obtain all of these goals. This is a very difficult to do, but with me having so many different people that support and give me the extra confidence to stay focused on my goals, it makes this process so much easier.
