Biogeochemical Cycle - A pathway by which a chemical substance moves through both the biotic (biosphere) and abiotic (lithosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere) components of Earth. b. Lithosphere- The rigid outer part of the earth, consisting crust and upper mantle. c. Hydrosphere - All the waters on the earth's surface, such as lakes and seas, and sometimes including water over the Earth's surface, such as clouds. d. Atmosphere - The envelope of gases surrounding the Earth or another planet. e. Biosphere - The regions of the surface, atmosphere and hydrosphere occupied by organisms 2. CHNOPS stands for what? The six most abundant elements of life: Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Phosphorus, and Sulfur. 3. Why is carbon good at bonding with other elements? Because of its atomic number (6) it can form 4 covalent bonds with different atoms to fulfill the Octet Rule.
