8/26 Vert Phys 28/08/2010 12:16:00 Stretch Reflex: Hammer pulls on muscle and stretches it o Muscles attached to bone and kneecap Stretch Receptor o Detects stretch of muscle o Neuron reports that muscle is stretched to spinal cord o Disynaptic circuit When contracts (when stretched), goes back to homeostasis  (regulatory process) Used for posture (why do we have it? For control) o Reflex is counteracted, motor neurons inhibit that for movement  (allows for movement to occur) Inhibitory Interneuron (Purple) o Tri-synaptic circuit o Need coordination in muscles (neurons need opposite effects Blue neuron releases neurotransmitters on both purple and red  and one is excited while other is inhibited Afferent = Sensory input into brain Efferent = Sensory input (output into?) out of brain Extracellular Recordings o Nerve impulses = brief spikes o Travel sensory receptors along afferent and release neurotransmitters
