Government 312L notes – 8/31: 19:12 Supreme Court Petition – different in how an individual can plead for their case to be heard, as  compared to other supreme courts in other countries. Take about 80 cases a year (75 last year) o Why? Because they decide how much work they want  to do Other Courts, such as the Brazilian Supreme Court actually takes on about 115,000  cases a year Justice: Olito o Bush appointee o Conservative o During state of the union address, he mouthed the words “not true” when the  president accused them of changing the law for their own political preferences Campaign Financing Case o Violated the 1 st  amendment, court sided with corporations  o This case brought out the tension btwn the two parties Cross in the Desert Case o Implicates the 1 st  amendment of individuals that feel the government in  advocating a particular religion o This violates the freedom of religion Free Enterprise Case o Violates the 3 rd  amendment
