Your Name Axia College / University of Phoenix BEH 225 Instructor, Name Month and Day, 2009 I believe that this refers to the fact that it was not until the late 1800's that psychology emerged as a formal discipline. I think "psychology has a long past but a short history" conveys that psychology has been with us for an extended time and according to our course material, hadn’t a group of “researchers”, followers or supporters - not until the late 1800's. Yes, there were pioneers such as Plato and Aristotle, but there was a lack of formal study. Thus, psychology does have a very long past and not history on the study of psychology. These philosophers cogitated over human behavior and mental processes, but these areas were conundrums for most philosophers - that is, until the late 1800's when the scientific methods were produced and applied. Honestly, I feel that Wilhelm Wundt had the most influence on the growth of psychology. He established the first psychology laboratory in Germany. There, the exploitation of experiment and measurement marked the beginnings of psychology as an actual science. Reference:
