Sexual Identity 2 The topic of sexual identity is often-times the main component of a human being’s sexuality. A person’s sexual identity may be traced as far back as the development stages and continues developing as a person becomes older. Numerous factors exist that pertain to the influencers of a person’s sexual identity, and it is these influencers that ultimately shape a person’s sexual identity. Sexual identity, however; has the capacity to develop throughout a person’s lifetime and transform throughout time with influence. Factors that can contribute to this transformation include value systems, environmental factors, gender identity, love, relationships, and historical perspectives (Nevid, Rathus & Fichner-Rathus, 2005). This paper will go into detail in regard to the aforementioned topics and expressions reflect my personal perspective. Value Systems and Critical Thinking Pertaining to Sexual Decision Making Invariably, it is critical for a person to make educated sexual decisions to enhance the likelihood of an unwanted outcome from not taking place. As such, the more information a person possesses, better sexual decision making will ultimately take place. As I am a mature and older female, I believe as if I have established a positive value system; therefore, I can make conscientious decisions pertaining to sexual situations. When such a situation arises, I customarily utilize critical thinking skills prior to making a sexual decision. I have been enhancing my critical thinking skills in this capacity on an ongoing basis and am reaching a point in which I am confident in them. When I was younger, I was not as well equipped to make sexual decisions, and as such, I did not make well informed decisions. However, as I have become older, I have found that my ability to make such decisions has greatly improved. This, nonetheless, derives from a considerable amount of trial and error.

Sexual Identity 3 As a result of this course, I have discovered a great deal pertaining to my sexuality and the process in which I make sexual decisions. I have found that I have a tendency to rationalize concerning my value system and analyze the potential outcomes prior to making any decisions. I try to analyze the situation from an outside perspective and employ situation ethics. I have also discovered that I am more skeptical than I previously thought. I never considered myself to be a person who manipulates easily.
