The initial sexual technique discussed in this week’s reading is masturbation (Rathus, Nevid, & Fichner-Rathus, 2005). Masturbating is a form of self-stimulation in an effort to obtain a degree of sexual satisfaction and/or potentially an orgasm. Another sexual technique mentioned in the text is sexual fantasy, which can be completed individually or with multiple people (Rathus, Nevid, et al., 2005). Foreplay involves facets such as oral-genital stimulation, cuddling, or kissing. Kissing has a dual function, as it can be a sign of affection or it can serve as foreplay prior to intercourse. Touching, on the other hand, can be done in several ways. It can involve simple hand-holding or stroking various areas on the body that are more sensual. Oral-genital stimulation involves either fellatio or cunnilingus stimulation.
