11-30-10 Films should be responsible : liable to called onto answer Why did the creater make it? Why should the audience pay money to go? Is the violence, sex, and representations of race just for show or does it mean something? Is it complex? PC homogenization? Film criticism is judging the responsibility of the film to get more out of it. That’s how life should be lived: as completely and intensely as possible; gets the most out of it Criticism helps live in the moment. Engages us intellectually and emotionally and becomes part of us (movies) as a deeper part of ourselves. “Loosen the flotsam and jetsam” , deep engagement = love with movies that makes you anew Better audiences >> better movies Lately the audience doesn’t want more from a movie, but they should. Movies haven’t been as good. Criticisms implies elegance; informal criticism and formal literary criticism is not equal to movie A picture is worth a thousand words, a movie picture that lasts 2+ hours, well…
